A Moral Defense of the Right to Die

July 28, 2008

In the realm of moral and legal debates, the right to life holds a highly esteemed position.  However, the overwhelming support for an individual’s right to live appears to be one sided. The antithesis: the right to die is often neglected.  In both the medical and scholarly communities alike the idea of a right to death is often scorned or brushed aside.  There seems to be an underlying assumption in favor of life and an implicit belief that those that wish to end their lives are misinformed or mentally incompetent.  This paper will defend the position that there are legitimate reasons and justifications for a person to request the right to die and that under certain circumstances it is morally obligatory that these rights be upheld.

Take control of your destiny. Believe in yourself. Ignore those who try to discourage you. Avoid negative sources, people, places, things and habits. Don't give up and don't give in

Stop being a wimp. Life is suppose to have bumps in the road, and by killing yourself your taking the easy way out.. now being taken off life support is different.

LIFE BRING ABOUT MANY CHANGES AND WE SOMETIMES CAN'T COPE WITH MAJOR CHANGES. DO WE PUT OURSELVES IN SOMEONE ELSES SHOES TO SEE HOW WE FEEL IF OUR LIFE AS WE KNOW IT CHANGES WITHIN SECONDS. HOW MUCH PRESSURE CAN WE TAKE IF OUR LIVES CHANGES DRAMATICLY AND WE CAN'T GET A GRIP ON LIFE ONLY THINKING OF THE THINGS THAT WE USE TO AND CAN'T DO ANYMORE. EVEN THOUGH JACK IS PARALYZED HE IS STILL HERE AND HE HAS A PURPOSE THAT HE JUST HAVEN'T TAPPED INTO YET. IF IT WAS MEANT FOR HIM TO DIE, GOD WOULD HAVE TAKEN HIS LIFE. I AGREE WITH THE DOCTOR TO GIVE HIMSELF TIME TO STOP FEELIN SORRY FOR HIMSELF AND START TO LIVE AGAIN IN THE WAY HE WAS LEFT. IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE BUT HE WAS SPARED. I WOULD STILL THANK GOD THAT I AM ALIVE.
