Too bad these developments make no sense in our current economic reality. Ray Kurzweil writes about a "law of accelerating returns," but we need a "law of accelerating real incomes" just to pay for current healthcare, much less all this futuristic medicine. I know people in their 40's who've already consumed more healthcare resources than they could possibly afford with their lifetime earnings.
If anything, regardless of the current ill-considered "reform" efforts and Aubrey's and Ray's science fictional fantasies, we seem likely to head into a situation where only the richest people can afford healthcare and the rest of us will have to take our chances without it.
