Considering that the VP of the US has an implanted defibrillator, and a prominent conservative talkshow host has a cochlear implant, it looks as if nonempathetic cyborgs can do just fine in American society.

What do you mean 'downloading' our consciences? Do you mean that Cyborgs would just robots with conscience in their chips, or robots with a human brain tranfered to it?
