Andrej Pejic - Androgynous Model - heralding a post-gender future?

Hank Pellissier

Ethical Technology

June 01, 2012

Gazing at the ravishing photos of Andrej Pejic, I’m stirred with envious confusion. Why does this tall skinny XY like me get to be so much prettier? Does his effeminate success - inflaming catwalks in both men and women’s high fashion - predict a fusion of two polarized genders, or a third construct? What does the androgynous Bosnian represent in post-genderism?

The lead piece in Amor Mundi is—as of a half hour ago—about this article; at any rate, if Dale isn’t much interested in an Andrej, then maybe there’s more for the rest of us wink
(here is one reason not to use one’s real name: slightly difficult to talk back to a nom d’ Web)

More interesting is a comment from ‘jimf’ at the previous piece concerning Pete, saying nonbelievers in their hearts know Christianity is correct—and there is more than a grain of truth to this when it comes to ethics; in fact it is thoroughly valid. But as we know, the New Testament is more than ethics, it is many other things. Jesus was more than ethics, He was supposedly the son of God.. and since ‘God’ has many definitions, many ‘qualities’ (to say the least) perhaps Jesus was the son of God, if you will, we’ll leave such a possibility open.

However I know of no evidence Christ was
a) resurrected;
or that Christ
b)  will return to Earth

As for Christ’s spirit still living, if one defines ‘living’ as Christ’s legacy then yes, Jesus lives.. but until more evidence of Christ’s spirit still being alive is available, will leave there and go no further.

David Pearce’s comments are both accurate scientifically and insightful in that he recognizes deeply-rooted biological differences and the pitfalls in lowering or eliminating testosterone—undoubtedly a source of gender inequality for its profound effects on behavior.

I must admit I am baffled and stunned at the level of inanity in Benjamin Abbott’s response to David’s views on gender.  He asserts: “As the data do not unequivocally support neurological sex difference and we know through the phenomenon of stereotype threat that assertions of essential difference can have harmful effects, I reject any focus on fixing biology.”

It’s pretty clear that androgens such as testosterone influence behavior, and Benjamin is either ignorant of or chooses to ignore this very basic fact.  In fact, by refusing to recognize biological differences between the sexes, Benjamin is doing a disservice to the cause of promoting justice and equality in society.  A movement to promote justice and equality must first and foremost be allied to the truth, even if it conflicts with deeply-held biases or beliefs.
