Then again, my experience with K-12 is far in the past, perhaps Moby Dick and Silas Marner are no longer included in curricula. The worst experience was reading Ethan Frome, a sadistically negative book; having youth (adults can take it in stride) read a hideous book-- no matter how well-written and clever-- is comparable to playing the HD 'Night Of The Living Dead' DVD to one's frail grandparents. Reminds of what a doctor said about his residency.. he said they made him work 16 hours a day 6 days a week because the board of physicians had to work such grueling hours when they were residents.
I surmise teachers have young students read negative books because the teachers had to read such books when they were in school.
