Treder @ Monmouth Junior Science Symposium

April 1-2, 2009
Monmouth University, New Jersey, USA

Mike Treder, Managing Director of the IEET, will deliver a keynote speech on April 1, 2009, during the first day of the annual Monmouth Junior Science Symposium in New Jersey.

The Monmouth Junior Science Symposium (MJSS) promotes original research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the high school level and publicly recognizes students for outstanding achievement. By connecting talented students, their teachers, and research professionals at affiliated symposia and by rewarding research excellence, MJSS aims to widen the pool of trained talent prepared to conduct research and development vital to our nation.

Inaugurated in 1963, MJSS is one of 48 regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposia, which are sponsored nationwide in cooperation with the United States Departments of the Army, Navy and Air Force. Specific cooperating organizations include: the U.S. Army Research Office, Research Triangle Park, N.C.; the Office of Naval Research, Arlington, Virginia; and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Bolling AFB, D.C.

Monmouth University, the United States Army, the United States Navy, Fort Monmouth (New Jersey) and The Academy of Applied Science, jointly sponsor the Monmouth Junior Science Symposium. More than 350 junior scientists and their advisors, representing over 50 high schools from throughout central and southern New Jersey, annually attend the Symposium. Featured in the two-day program, which is held at both Monmouth University and Fort Monmouth, are presentations by accomplished scientists, technicians and outstanding students.

The MJSS mission:

  * To promote research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the high school level.
  * To recognize the significance of research in human affairs and the importance of humane and ethical principles in the application of research results.
  * To search out talented youth and their teachers, recognize their accomplishments at symposia, and encourage their continued interest and participation in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
  * To expand the horizons of research-oriented students by exposing them to opportunities in the academic, industrial, and governmental communities.
  * To increase the number of future adults capable of conducting research and development.
