This experimental robot, created by researchers at the University of Southern California, is completely autonomous and trained by machine learning algorithms. The video is real-time, i.e., not sped up.
Will the next round of learning (or did the last one) involve partially viewed hidden aspects of terrain features? That is, will the robot study and calculate whether this or that rock will be more or less stable after it identifies an acceptable foothold? The only movable footholds in the video were the hidden lever one and the human interacting with the robot. Neither rolled out of the way.
