A group of researchers at Cornell University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department have created a robot that has a primitive sense of self. Hod Lipson and Victor Zykov of Cornell University together with lead author Josh Bongard (now at the University of Vermont) built the four footed robot, nicknamed the Starfish, as part of a three year project to design an intelligent robot that can recover from unanticipated situations.
