Bio-con Hayes bashes Harris and Green in Fukuyama’s neo-con mag

The American Interest

Posted: Dec 22, 2007

“Self-Made Man: A Review of Babies by Design: The Ethics of Genetic Choice by Ronald M. Green and Enhancing Evolution: The Ethical Case for Making People Better by John Harris” by Richard Hayes, The American Interest (January - February 2008)

Interesting choice of venue for Dick Hayes, executive director of the Left biocon group Center for Genetics and Society, to publish his piece in - The American Interest is Francis Fukuyama’s journal for chastened neo-conservatives, which is basically the trajectory I foresee Hayes and the Left bio-cons converging with. Perhaps the CGS folks are finally waking up to the utility of Left/Right Bio-Con fusion that the bio-cons of the Institute for Biotechnology and a Human Future embraced in 2004.

Dick notes “Leaders of the World Transhumanist Association, which advocates the use of genetic technology to create a post-human species, have been invited to advise the European Commission, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the liberal Center for American Progress.” As Dale says, ooh skeery. - J.
