Dolphins Rule, Fish Get No Respect

Posted: Apr 8, 2010

Respondents to a recently concluded IEET reader poll chose Dolphin as the animal whose consciousness they would most like to briefly inhabit. Given a dozen animals to choose from, Fish ranked dead last.

Second place went to Bird, and Cat came in third—which could lead to some interesting role-playing game possibilities if this technology is every developed.

If you could briefly occupy the consciousness of any animal, what animal would you want to be?

Among the “Other” answers given, Lion, Cheetah, Fox, and Bat each got three votes, as did Woman—presumably meaning that a few males would like the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of the opposite sex. Someone also gave one vote for Man, perhaps a female who would like to do the same thing.

Two people said they would want to try being an Eagle, two people said Wolf, and two said Spider. One vote each was cast for Ferret, Frog, Rat, Shark, Snake, and Whale.

I like this poll…!

Whenever people ask me what type of animal I’d like to be, I always say Homo sapiens. If not human, then, dolphin seems the next best. Big brains, totally alien environment. Pretty cool.

Other big-brained primates like the one mentioned in the poll have too much in common with us to recommend the swap if one takes into account the anticipated squalor one would have to endure.

I am really upset about this.

I voted for the BEAR because they get to hibernate, which is my goal in life.

But, alas, the bear didn’t do well.

@ William & @Billmert- funny:)
