Humanity+ Board Elections

Posted: Jan 12, 2009

Some of you are members of our sister organization Humanity+ (formerly World Transhumanist Association), so I wanted to just drop a quick note about this week’s elections for the Humanity+ Board of Directors. (If you aren’t a voting member you have until Thursday to join and vote).  All the candidate statements are here.  There are four IEET folks in the running that I thought you should be aware of including IEET Board members Michael LaTorra and George Dvorsky, and IEET Fellows Mike Treder and Ben Goertzel.

We wish them well and urge those of you are who voting members of Humanity+ (or become voting members this week) to give them serious consideration.

Candidates who are also of bio-political note are:

- Stéphane Gounari, co-founder of the french group Technoprog! (the French Technoprogressive Association)

- Sonia Arrison, tech journalist, analyst for the libertarian thinktank Pacific Research Institute, currently writing a book about life extension

- Patri Friedman, advocate of anarcho-capitalism and “sea-steadng,” i.e. independent anarchist nation-states on oil-rigs in the open seas

The other candidates are Todd Huffman (Phoenix, Arizona), Jonas Lamis (Austin Texas), Sungjoo Ogino (Japan), Stefan Pernar (Singapore), and Arsen Zahray (Ukraine).

All told there twelve candidates for eight open seats. We wish them all the best of luck and the new Humanity+ Board much success on its challenging agenda for 2009.

Again click here to pay dues to become a voting member of Humanity+ before Thursday in order to vote in election.
