One negative is co-optation. When a Glenn Beck pays lip service by announcing "we thank the Almighty Father for MLK..." at a DC rally on MLK Day 2011, Beck is praising MLK for having been martyred at the Lorraine Motel. Beck's corny smarm has to do with heroic self-sacrifice (not to forget sacrificing others), Roman Legions marching off to the Levant, and all the rest of it. Left-libertarianism is a positive, albeit Giulio may not have a full appreciation for the dictum 'there is an exception to every rule', we can't always be impartial; quotas, set asides, Affirmative Action, are necessary for blacks because blacks got the worst of it in America. As James F. Keith can perceive, if blacks had listened to Beck way back when, there would be no rally in DC so Beck could suck-up to those blacks who might purchase the products and services advertised on his radio and TV programs (Beck himself will admit when pressed the economy concerns self-interest at its paramount).
However, I remember the riots after MLK's assassination and walked through the debris of several neighborhoods in Paterson NJ. It wasn't the riots that were disturbing; if whites had been treated as badly as blacks, whites would have utilized far more violence. What did confuse and disturb me was the fecklessness of the 'Left' at that time: they were as out-of-it as the Right is today-- plus more pollyannish than the Right.
We can probably agree the Right tend to be hardnosed to say the least.
The 'Left' is more aware today, unfortunately a remnant of their excessive innocence has carried over from that era. Francis Fukuyama explains:

"multiculturalism validates the victimhood of virtually every out-group. It is impossible to generate a mass progressive movement on the basis of such a motley coalition: most of the working-class citizens victmized by the system are cultural conservative..."
"postmodernism begins with a denial of any master narrative of history or society, undercutting its own authority as a voice for the majority of citizens who feel betrayed by their elites..."

Thanks for sharing the "I Have a Dream" speech.

I’m really a fan of Martin Luther King, Jr. I admire his faith and courage.

I’ve found a nice collection of his quotes categorized by subject:
