The Washington Post reported that Sanjay Gupta - CNN chief health correspondent, assistant professor of neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine, and author of Chasing Life: New Discoveries in the Search for Immortality to Help You Age Less Today - has been approached to be the new Surgeon General.

The notable thing about this pick is that he is has spoken out about life extension research and the ultimate goal of biological immortality.

Could this mean we will see a shift of focus away from disease-specific cures and toward prevention and anti-aging research? Such a focus would be among the best long term investments we could possibly make. As that old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

150,000 people die per day. The economic and social consequences of this are enormous. If we can make even a little headway on this issue, it would be extraordinarily beneficial.

Beuatiful. It sound like he would be the best choice for sergeon generall so that we can live forever,Wgraegith the wealth of our living planet Earth and the peoples accumalive health knowledge people and all of life of Earth can and has the right to live forever.

Mr. Sanjay Gupta is a nice choice of President Obama with respect to his education, experiences and other. He is really qualified. There won't be a need for Dr. Sanjay Gupta to get payday loans for a while, that is for sure. Dr. Gupta is a graduate of the University of Michigan medical school, and a former White House fellow. He is also the chief medical correspondent for CNN, and in addition to broadcasts, also blogs for CNN's Health website. His curriculum vitae is impressive (that's what doctors call their résumé) and that is one of the primary reasons why he won't need payday loans, and probably one of the main reasons why he's been picked by Obama to be the next Surgeon General. Surgeons General are typically people of imposing medical authority, as previous Surgeons General have been, such as Ronald Reagan's surgeon general, C. Everett Koop, perhaps the best-known surgeon general of US history. Dr. Gupta, despite some initial opposition, would be a solid pick for the job.

I think Dr. Sanjay Gupta in an excellent choice for surgeon general position. Obama is certainly picking the cream of the crop.

I have seen his credentials and was also quite impressed by his books, documentries and other work in the preventitive health measures.

I don't mean to be a spoilsport, but Gupta doesn't really talk about true biological immortality, but rather "practical" immortality, which seems to be just a euphemism for "live much longer without getting sick, and as a result we’ll have many more functional years." And if he promotes that well, I'll be behind him!

I would like to know if Dr. Gupta is the same man who went to Trinity School in Rutherfordton, NC. I taught someone with this name and I would love to know if this is the same man. Sally Harbin
