Martine and Bina Rothblatt accept award on Sexual Freedom Day at the National Press Club, September 23, 2010. Sexual Freedom Day was presented by the Woodhull Freedom Foundation.

The Woodhull Foundation is named in honor of Victoria Woodhull, political and sex radical in the 19th century who was also the first woman to run for President of the United States, in 1872 as a candidate of the Equal Rights Party.

COMMENTS

To curtail another of my digressive comments, having grown up in the counterculture, the following isn't at all from guilt. However:
the still-powerful guilt & jealousy extant fairly negates much of the gains. So you can imagine what certain nominal Christians-- such as certain Christians commenting on another blog here (you know who they are) feel about this topic. And we do have to deal with them. Not their opinions (per se) but rather their boilerplate, is what is discouraging IMO.
Quite a long row to hoe.

I was surprised to see that Woodhull wrote: ":"[t]he rights of children as individuals begin while yet they remain the foetus"." I wasn't expecting that. On a different note, I'm not so sure I'd be willing to accept an award from an organization named after a eugenicist.

Congratulations! Freedom is the sweetest word in my dictionary.
