International Women's Day 2007 (March 8)

For this March 8th, on this day of the woman, I would like to provoke some reflexion on feminism, this much-maligned and misunderstood word strangely rejected by many young women of my age despite the fact they benefit from the victories of women's struggles of preceding generations.

Many people believe that feminism is an anti-men movement, that feminists are shrews that consider all men violent and dangerous.

I believe that to be feminist one only has to believe in the equality of sexes, support struggles seeking to to allow women here and elsewhere to achieve equality, but mostly, by applying this value in our daily lives. You are probably a feminist without realizing it!

Feminism does not threaten men or their rights. Granting women rights does not (or should not) take away anything from men. Feminists are of all generations, circles, cultures and orientations. We (yes I identify myself as a feminist) are different from each other and not always in agreement with each other on every issue, but we all wish that women can live in dignity, respect and equality so that they can make free choices and live their lives as they see fit.
