Welcome to your future android clone

The most interesting event at SXSW I heard of was: “Robot panelists, AI and the future of identity,” with Bruce Duncan, Managing Director of the Terasem Movement Foundation, bringing us up to date on Terasem’s amazing LifeNaut project.

LifeNaut is a free online service (and experiment) for personal data storage and avatar interactivity, says Duncan. “It allows people to build a rich personal profile that preserves their essential, unique qualities as ‘mindfiles.’” (They also allow you to store your DNA.)

I am a little more concerned about having something to eat in a few decades, rather than having a robotic body. I’d prefer both but it is not going to happen.

And I am growing less and less enthusiastic about building something to effectively *displace* me; the whole world is doing that just fine without me facilitating that.

A transhumanist future is no longer compatible with what we now have. This version of capitalism and money power is conspiring to abort whatever we have left of a future for the human species (or life in general) on this planet.

Transhumanism, singularitarianism, extropianism only has a future if it moves away from the corporate corruption all around us.

I am seeing a nice explanation for Fermi’s Paradox in action all around us. No matter how the abundance-cheerleaders keep swinging their pompoms. I am not seeing it any more. We are all going to die pretty awfully.

@Khannea re “transhumanism, singularitarianism, extropianism only has a future if it moves away from the corporate corruption all around us.”

I agree, but you should say just “corruption” not “corporate corruption”. Corporations pay bribes to governments, so technically speaking it is governments that are corrupted.

It is an endemic feedback loop that benefits both corporations and governments, and that’s why they co-operate behind the scene to screw up the rest of us. My simple solution: get rid of both big corporations and big government.
