One third of those responding to a recent IEET reader poll expressed confidence that emerging technologies “will transform the world, leading to a fabulous future.” But a slightly higher number of respondents believe that some form of “progressive global governance” will be necessary to manage and regulate our technologies and the companies that create them, so that we can avoid various kinds of disaster.
Another 15% of those who answered the poll are pessimistic, saying that “it’s already too late. The unsustainable economy will implode at some point, and global warming is past the point of no return.”
A few people provided their own answers. Here are some of those:
- Ubiquitous innovation, especially in STEM areas (science, technology, engineering, math).
- Parallel trends happening all at once.
- Maintaining the current equilibrium.
- Public opinion.
- Erect Penile Length.
- Moral Restoration.
- Social upheaval and smaller governance drifting away from universal concepts.
- Both emerging technology, and progressive global governance.
- All these factors are inter-connected.
