Born Poor, Stay Poor: The Silent Caste System of America
C. Nicole Mason   Sep 26, 2016   Big Think

There’s a lot missing from debates and policy surrounding poverty but the biggest deficit, according to Dr C. Nicole Mason, is in honesty. Impoverished people aren’t poor because they’re lazy, they’re poor because social mobility is institutionally suppressed.

COMMENTS
Social mobility is no substitute for giving poor people a better life.
The reason that Americans are economically worse off now than in 2007
is that incomes for the non-wealthy have gone down overall. To
correct this, we must increase the incomes for the non-wealthy
overall, and make sure that those disabled or unemployable, are not
left destitute.
