In the July 13 issue of the Washington Post, IEET Fellow Linda Glenn was featured in Vivek Wadha’s column entitled “Ethics in the age of acceleration.”

The news report discusses a disabled Vietnam vet who traveled with the aid of a custom-made mobile-assistive device, that was damaged in 2009 in the cargo hold of the plane. With Glenn as his attorney, he was able to garner a fair settlement, due to the contention that the device was an “extension of his body.”

Glenn subsequently documented the test case in the Annals of Health Law. The news report notes that, “As the Glenn case on human-machine merges shows, modern-day business practices lack an understanding of changes in technology.”
