Few IEETers Quantify the Self

Although the quantified self movement has been getting a lot of attention within technoprogressive and transhumanist communities, appealing to the self-engineering mindset, not many IEET community members have started quantifying themselves. Two thirds either measure nothing about themselves, or only watch their weight. Only one in eight are using mobile health devices or apps to record facts about their bodies or minds.

We asked “Have you quantified yourself?” Of the more than 90 respondents, while only one in eight were using mobile devices or apps, another one in four were recording some quantitative aspects of their mind or body beyond weight.

Our next poll is “Is addiction to Internet pornography a real thing?,” which is in response to the growing debate over the neurochemistry of the brain’s response to Net porn, the decision to continue excluding diagnoses for sex or porn addiction from the revised DSM V, and the vote in the European Parliament on banning internet porn.
