IEET Audience Leans towards “Free Will”

We asked “Is there free will?” Of the 103 of you who answered, slightly more than half believed free will was possible.

We offered these possibilities:

  • Free will is a useful illusion in our macro-deterministic universe (quantum indeterminacy doesn’t enable free will)
  • The universe is not deterministic and human free will is a metaphysical reality
  • Only extraordinarily self-aware human beings can transcend determinism and exercise free will
