The Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies is pleased to announce the appointment of six accomplished individuals as charter members of our newly created Affiliate Scholars program.

Heather Bradshaw is working on a doctoral thesis on enhancement and disability at the Centre for Ethics in Medicine at the University of Bristol. She is also a staffer at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics.

Richard Eskow, a contributing writer for Huffington Post, is CEO of Health Knowledge Systems (HKS) in Los Angeles, which provides services to the healthcare and workers’ compensation industries.

Andrea Kuszewski works as a researcher with METODO Social Sciences Institute, the US branch of METODO Transdisciplinary Research Group on Social Sciences, based in Bogotá Colombia, investigating the neuro-cognitive factors behind human behavior.

Len Sassaman, a cypherpunk and privacy advocate, is a PhD candidate at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, and a researcher with the COSIC research group.

Ilia Stambler works as a scientific writer at the Biophysical Schottenstein Center for the Research and Technology of the Cellome, Bar-Ilan University, Israel.

Philippe Verdoux, whose primary research interests lie at the intersection of emerging technologies and the philosophy of mind and biology, has published papers in academic journals including the Journal of Future Studies, the Journal of Evolution and Technology, Techne: Research in Philosophy and Technology, and Erkenntnis.

This effort from the IEET is aimed at creating a closer relationship between our growing organization and scholars whose work we admire and would like to promote. As technology accelerates, and as problems seem to mount at an equally rapid pace, the need for a group of smart, dedicated thinkers who are looking ahead of the curve is greater than ever.
