The authors’ varied backgrounds in Medical Law, bioethics, sociology of health, education and feminist studies, respectively, provide an in-depth look at the affect of medicalization on health and medicine in the modern era as well as examining the social and cultural effects. The relationship between doctors and patients is changing and revelations exposed by the authors’ explorations, and illustrations through familiar examples, reveal the underlying change needing to be considered. While the topic may appear to have a limited audience, the book is accessible to a wide spectrum of audiences and their interests, and the organization of the table of contents makes it easy to navigate the terrain of topics.
