Europeans say,
“You Yanks are as socialist as we are, difference is you wont admit it.”
But rightists (small case ‘r’) today scarcely bother to hide how they want their own people to get whatever they can. They are winking at us; today it is oppositionism when not pure contrarianism. China and other nations underwrite us and our trillion-dollar wars (we are going to pay out several trillions merely to take care of injured veterans of the current wars for the rest of their lives).
Fiscal conservatism is dead; social conservatism remains—and that means smarmy family values, commercialised religion, red white and blue bunting, and portraits of the Gipper on his horse.
Put your hands over your hearts, rise for the flag salute.
