James Hughes Ph.D., the Executive Director of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies, is a bioethicist and sociologist. He previously served as the Associate Provost for Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning for the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Steven Umbrello currently serves as the Managing Director at the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies and he is also a Research Fellow at the University of Turin where he directs the Ethical Research Center on Anthropology and Technology. His research applies the theology of Bernard Lonergan to artificial intelligence: what machines can and cannot do to human knowing, judgment, and dignity. He is also an associate researcher at the Collège des Bernardins, where he works on digital humanism, and he serves on the steering committee of the Catholic Turing Test Initiative (Builders AI Forum).

Marcelo Rinesi is the IEET’s Chief Technology Officer and former Assistant Director. He is a freelance Data Intelligence Analyst. He is also a fiction writer and has published a short SF novella The Ontociders and a collection of SF short stories, The Fatou Entries.
