"We have made you a creature neither of heaven nor of earth, neither mortal nor immortal, in order that you may, as the free and proud shaper of your own being, fashion yourself in the form you may prefer. It will be in your power to descend to the lower, brutish forms of life; you will be able, through your own decision, to rise again to the superior orders whose life is divine.''
Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, Oration on the Dignity of Man

Hacking the future of sex: wearable joysticks

We make money not art

Posted: May 6, 2007

In a recent article, I mused that the virtualization of sex would make body sex less appealing, and that teledildonics would evolve to make Wii-sex more popular. But I also noted that the merger of virtual life into real life with spimed objects and ubiquitous computing, and eventually nano-neural interfaces, would allow physical sex partners to integrate the best of virtuality, such as fantasy locations, extra partners, fantastic bodies, and novel orgasmic responses.

Of course its only possible to stay a week or two ahead of reality here. Now artists Jennifer Chowdhury and Mehmet Sinan Ascioglu have come up with a solution for the video game widow pining for attention from her WoW (or porn) addicted husband: video game controllers implanted in a bra. To make game play interactive the guys get a pair of shorts with six sensors. “I wanted to create a type of video game play that would center around a couple’s intimacy and where two people would touch each other in order to play the game.”
