And yet another book has just been out on the attainability of radical life-extension: David Stipp's "The youth pill. Scientists at the brink of an anti-aging revolution" : that was inspired by the Longevity Dividend campaign.

People predicted the "imminent" breakthrough in life extension over 30 years ago:

Yet the actuarial tables still have a better track record of predicting your demise than these fringe scientists.

Yes, and even earlier. But there seems to be a certain degree of "shadenfreude" in recounting the instances where science, and particularly longevity science, hasn't been moving along as fast as predicted.

The "fringe scientists" as you call them (or perhaps rather visionaries) never say that radical life extension is already possible. Only that we are on the threshold of it, and whether we will be able to pass this threshold, will largely depend on individual and collective efforts. It is certainly not helped by a "where is my potato chips" attitude.
